Man made in the image of God.

Jeff Unsworth

Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.” (Genesis 1:26a)

Who is the “us” referred to in this verse?

It is God, (Elohim) who is speaking.

Who is He referring to?

He is referring to the creator, the Trinity.

Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

The Father spoke the Word and the Holy Spirit hovered over the face of the waters

Who is the creator?

John 1:1-3 from the Gospel of John states: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made."

“By Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible . . . all things were created by Him, and for Him” (Colossians 1:16).

Jesus is clearly seen as the author of creation.

The Logos, the Word, Jesus Christ is the creator.

The Word for creator or created is “Bara”. Bar Aleph, the Son of God.

The “us” in Gen 1:26 is referring to the Triune Godhead, Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

We were made in the image of God.

The biblical concept of humanity being created "in God's image" (Genesis 1:26-27) distinguishes humans from angels, emphasizing humanity's unique capacity for relationship with God and dominion over creation.

Elohim is a singular plural noun. Meaning more than one.

Cherub/Cherubim, Seraph/Seraphim, Nephil/Nephilim.

The statement in Gen 3:5, referring to gods, is a statement being made by Satan and is a lie.

Genesis 3:5 For God [elohim], knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like gods [elohim], knowing good and evil.

This was the lie of Satan, there are no gods beside the Lord God.

This teaching prevails today, in the doctrine of “little gods”. Having the ability to speak things into existence. This is heretical, and is taught in Mormonism and the Word of Faith movement.

The Bible teaches there is only one God.

Deuteronomy 4:35,39 — Unto thee it was shown, that thou mightest know that the LORD he is God; there is none else beside

Eph 4:6 one God and Father of us all.

John 17:3 — And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

1Timothy 2:5 — For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.

In his writings, Paul asserts the belief that there is only one God, the Father, through whom all things were created and through whom we exist. While other "gods" might be named and worshipped, ultimately, Paul posits that these are mere idols with no real existence.

1 Corinthians 8:4-6: Paul states that an idol is nothing in the world and that "there is no God but one". He acknowledges that there may be many "gods" and "lords" mentioned, but for believers, there is only one God, the Father, and one Lord, Jesus Christ.

Acts 17:23-24: Paul, during his visit to Athens, referenced the altar dedicated to "An unknown God" and later explained that this God is the one whom they did not know but was the creator of all things, including humanity.

In Abrahamic religions (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam), angels are not considered gods. They are created, spiritual beings who serve God, acting as messengers and intermediaries between God and humanity.

Angels are referred to as “sons of God”, as are, born again believers. To them gave He the power to become the sons of God.
