Who is The Whore of Babylon in Revelation 17 & 18 ? (Jeff Unsworth)
When we examine scripture, we see that Israel was the nation that went whoring, fornicating with other false gods. Committing adultery against God with other gods.
God continually punished them by using these other nations as chastisement until Israel turned back to God.
Only a wife can be an adulteress. To be an adulteress one must have a husband.
Israel and the church are always referred to in scripture as a woman, the wife of God or the bride of Christ.
So those outside the Christian faith CANNOT commit adultery against God because they are not "married" to Him in the first place. Only Israel or Christians can commit adultery against God, because Christ Jesus is the husband (Bridegroom) and the church is His wife (bride). So Babylon the Great HAS to be a professing Christian church.
It has been said by some that the whore of Babylon is Islam. This cannot be correct as Islam is not the bride of Christ or the wife of God. On the same premise those that say that the Whore is the world system would also be wrong.
However if the whore is a religion, then which religion fulfills the criteria to be the one.
Which religious faith is regarded as the 'mother' church who has the world political reach to be Babylon?
So can we figure out from the scripture who this whore of Babylon is?
Lets look at the evidence.
What is the main symbol of this woman riding the beast? It is a clear symbol of a uniting of church and state. With the being church the one in control.
This church, the whore of Babylon, sits upon many waters.
Rev 17:15 The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues. .
Revelation 17:2 ...'the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.'
Which church has influenced kings throughout the past 2000 years and continues to have 'diplomatic relations' with nations all over the world?
Now we know from history that the popes of the Roman Catholic Church certainly had 'authority' over the kings of the earth, which is how the Catholic Church was able to have so many Christians killed during the dark ages and inquisitions.
The Vatican now has 'Diplomatic relations with 180 Nations.
Billions have been made drunk with the false teachings, (wine) of the Catholic Church. Not only are there over 1.2 BILLION Catholics deceived by her teachings, even the majority of Protestant Christians still hold onto some Catholic false doctrine. (Clergy, Infant Baptism,)
The Roman Catholic church teaches: Imagery, Idols, cross and relic adoration; Intercession of Mary; Prayers to Mary and the saints; Mass; Confession to priests; Purgatory; Prayers for the dead; Holy water; Lent; Penances;Processions; Pilgrimages; Clergy, Celibacy of clergy; Monkery.
None of these are Biblical institutions. Instead they are borrowed from Paganism and have been adopted by the harlot church of Rome.
Most of these were introduced to the Roman church when Constantine made Christianity the state religion.
Although this RC church still professes: The Deity, The Trinity, The Virgin Birth and The Resurrection, it teaches another Gospel in that it teaches there is no salvation outside of the Roman church.
Salvation comes by keeping the sacraments and adherence to the traditions of the church. It also teaches Universalism. That all roads lead to God eventually, irrespective of which Faith.
Pope Francis described recently as "dangerous" the temptation to believe that one can have "a personal, direct, immediate relationship with Jesus Christ without communion with and the mediation of the church." He also said that members of all religions are children of God.
Revelation 17:4 ...'And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and Whore of Babylon decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication.'

Most of the Reformers believed Rome to be the antichrist system and some believed the Pope to be antichrist.
We are told in scripture that this whore is decked with Gold and precious stones and pearls.
Having a Golden Cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication.
Revelation 17:5 ...'And upon her forehead was a name written,
MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.'
Outsiders are kept in the dark( mystery) as to what really goes on behind closed doors at the Vatican.

Roman Catholic Church has caused TENS OF MILLIONS of Christians to be persecuted and brutally murdered?
Revelation 17:18 ...'And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.'
So how can we bring this church and city together? Well, what is the one city which is also a church that "reigns" over the nations of the world?
What one city, which is also a church has diplomatic relations with virtually all the world's nations? VATICAN CITY! Sits on 7 Hills.
Revelation 17:6 ...'and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.'
What is the one church that people would look at with awe and wonder?
The Roman Catholic Vatican Church, with all her splendor and pomp. Millions of people flock to the Vatican each year and wonder at the "majesty" and splendor of the place.
Revelation 17:3 ...'and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.'
This beast is the same as the red 'dragon' the Devil and Satan.
What or who are the seven heads and ten horns?Revelation 17: 9—139. And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.10 And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space.11 And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition.12 And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.13 These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.Daniel prophesied about four kingdoms, Babylon – Medo Persia – Greece – Rome – Two had already fallen. Out of this one, the 8th the beast comes. ( Out of the Pit ) into Perdition ( Man of Sin ) (antichrist).
There many things that link the EU with Babylon.
Either the leaders are playing a big joke on us all or there is some esoteric relevance in what is happening in Europe.

What are we to make of such things?

Wounded unto death?
There are many interpretations of this passage of scripture. Historic, Preterist and Futurist. Some refer to the Ceasars of Rome, some refer to the Popes from a certain date in history and others the ruling nations that persecuted God people.
When the Reformation began, it looked like the Roman Catholic church had been stripped of it’s Temperal and Spiritual power. If things had carried on as they were, the Roman Catholic system would have been dead.However in 1540, an organization was created to combat this reformation.Ignatius Loyola formed “The Society of Jesus—The Jesuits”).
The object, the Counter Reformation. To bring back to life the temporal and spiritual power of Rome. Here is the symbol of the Jesuit order. ( Isis, Horus and Set ) Pagan gods.
The Jesuits infiltrated all sections of society and all churches.
Using fifth column tactics, they became whatever they needed to be to divide fellowships, to implant heresy and division and so bring about separation of churches. It is said that wherever this banner hung , you would find an invisible Jesuit presence.

Needless to say, these tactics were very successful. Denominations spread and disappeared, discord was sown.Now today we are seeing churches all over the world gravitating back to Rome.
It has been claimed recently by Pope Francis ( the first Jesuit pope) that Protestantism is dead. That all the daughter churches are now coming back to the MOTHER church.
Is the Roman Catholic System, the whore that rides the beast?
