Name and Shame.
(False Teachers)
With churches being closed because of Covid 19, Christians have been using Social Media and the Internet, watching videos on YouTube etc.
Besides good teachers the Internet is riddled with false teaching which is causing lots of confusion amongst the brethren.
There are also many false teachers in churches today.
Jesus in Matthew 24 warned about these last day’s false teachers and false prophets.
We too, should warn others about these false teachers and false prophets.
The Word of Faith movement and the Prosperity Gospel preachers are such people, both men and women.
They are preaching a false Gospel that cannot save anyone.
They are not preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ but the gospel of ME.
Until one realises that there is nothing good in ME and that the true Gospel is about lifting up JESUS, who came to seek and to save sinners, you can never be saved.
What should true born again believers do about these heretics?
Well, the Word of Faith and Prosperity Gospel preachers have a saying which is “Name it and claim it”.
We also should have a phrase, “Name it and Shame it”.
Some Christians feel it is wrong to name false teachers, they think we should leave it to God to judge them.
Well, that is correct, God will judge them. However it is our duty as Christians to guard others against such men. We are to judge in the sense that we have a responsibility to distinguish between false and true.
The Greek for Judge is (krinō) it means "to set apart so as to distinguish, separate."
This is what happened in the Bible.
In Luke 13:32, Jesus did this very thing. Speaking of Herod Jesus said.
Luk 13:32 And he said unto them, Go ye, and tell that fox, (Meaning Herod) Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I shall be perfected.
In this instance, our Lord not only called a person by name, but He called Herod a name, a fox! He didn’t hide Herod’s evil character, but publicly exposed it to others.
We find the Apostle Paul does the same thing. Paul called Elymas out and God judged him.
Sergius Paulus, who was eager to hear the Gospel was in danger of being turned away from the truth.
Act 13:6 And when they had gone through the isle unto Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name was Barjesus:
Act 13:7 Which was with the deputy of the country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man; who called for Barnabas and Saul, and desired to hear the word of God.
Act 13:8 But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith.
Act 13:9 Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him,
Act 13:10 And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?
The Gospel writer Luke names the seven sons of Sceva in the Acts of the Apostles.
Act 19:13 Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.
Act 19:14 And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so.
Act 19:15 And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?
Act 19:16 And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.
Act 19:17 And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.
The Apostle Paul spoke against false teachers in Corinth and although he didn’t mention them by name, his hearers knew who he was referring to.
2Co 11:3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
2Co 11:4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.
2Co 11:13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.
2Co 11:14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
Writing to the church at Philippi Paul warned of false teachers.
Php 3:2 Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision.
Php 3:18 (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:
Php 3:19 Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)
Paul didn’t mention names here but the people knew that he was referring to Christian Jews who were saying that when one got converted, they needed to be circumcised. However he name people when writing to Timothy.
1Ti 1:19 Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck:
1Ti 1:20 Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.
2Ti 1:15 This thou knowest, that all they which are in Asia be turned away from me; of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.
2Ti 2:16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
2Ti 2:17 And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;
2Ti 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2Ti 3:2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
2Ti 3:3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
2Ti 3:4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
2Ti 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
2Ti 3:6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
2Ti 3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
2Ti 4:10 For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia.
John writing in his third letter names one Diotrephes.
3Jn 1:9 I wrote unto the church: but, Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.
3Jn 1:10 Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church.
By naming false teachers, or anyone that hinders the Gospel, we are not judging them but distinguishing between them and genuine teachers.
We should not feel that we are being unfaithful by naming them, we should be discerning in these last days.
Jesus said beware of false teachers. When we become aware of these people, it is our duty to make the brethren aware of them too.
Names to be aware of, men and women that support the Word of Faith, the New Apostolic Reformation, and New Age.
Many genuine born again Christians are taken in by these false teachers.
