Did Jesus die for all men?

Jeff Unsworth

Although the blood of Jesus is sufficient for the salvation of the whole world, meaning, all men, His blood is not appropriated in the lives of all men.

John 3:16 God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes on Him should not perish but have eternal life.

It is to the “whosoever” that the blood is applied. It is applied by God through the Holy Spirit.

Who are the “whosoever”?

The whosoever are those that God set His affections on before the foundation of the world.

Those whom He foreknew, (foreloved), are the objects of His salvation.

The phrase "loved before the foundation of the world" is a theological concept, particularly associated with the Christian faith. It refers to the idea that God's love and choice for believers existed before the creation of the physical universe, meaning God's love is eternal and unconditional.

God's affections, (love) was set on these before they were born, before they had done anything to merit it. It was God's own choice, according to the council of His own will.

Romans 9:11-13, the Bible states that God chose Jacob over Esau, even before they were born or had done anything good or bad. This choice was not based on their actions, but on God's own purpose and plan.

All men deserve the punishment of hell, because all men are sinners.

Romans 3:23. For all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God.
Romans 6:23 the wages of sin is death.

God is well within His rights, if He chooses, to save no one, but because He is merciful and for His own glory, He chooses to save some.

In Romans 9:15 He saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.

In this there is no injustice. God is love and God is just.

God chose only Israel from amongst the nations as His Elect.

God chooses His Elect from out of the world.

The Elect are the sheep of Jesus Christ and they were chosen “in Him” before the foundation of the world.

Those whom He foreknew, He predestined, those He predestined, He called, those He called He justified and those He justified, He glorified.

It was a done deal before the foundation of the world and in the fullness of time, God brings it to pass.

Why were these, the “whosoever” chosen by God?

To show His glory.

The concept of being "chosen to manifest God's glory" suggests being divinely selected and empowered to demonstrate God's presence, power, and character in the world through one's actions, words, and life. It implies a calling to be a conduit of God's grace and love, allowing His glory to shine through them.
